When I think of Jesus I think of this guy being Jewish rather than Christian - anyone else feel the same way?

When I think of Jesus I don't think of him a some benign smiling figure with a shining halo walking a round in neatly pressed white cotton robes with an angelic smile. I see him as more of a smart-witted, street-wise Jewish guy willing to stick up for what he thinks. Do you think this is why I have faith issues, does anyone else have the same internal image of him?
