How do you know if a guy just wants to be friends?

So I have liked this guy for a year now and he is my BFF but a guy BFF! And he knows I like him and we joke about it too! I'm the only girl who is close to him and I think he likes me but then I don't so how do I know if he just wants to be friends or something more?
